Turf
Merchants, Inc. (TMI) is located in the heart of Oregon's
Willamette Valley, where over 65 percent of the world's
supply of grass seed is grown. Generations of experience,
expertise in production, and abundant natural rainfall
make the quality of Oregon Grass seed the best in the
world. More than 400 million pounds of grass seed is
produced here annually.
Turf Merchants, Inc. sources
proprietary turfgrasses from its own Research and
Breeding Programs, from Private Breeding Programs as well
as programs from institutions such as Rutger's,
University of Florida, Texas A & M, University of
Arizona, and Mississippi State University to name a
few.
TMI utilizes a complex network of
carefully selected growers to contract produce more than
40 million pounds of proprietary turfgrass seed each
year. We operate from three full-service warehouses,
strategically located, where we can simultaneously
process, blend, package and ship. TMI sets the standard
for prompt, accurate shipments direct to customers
worldwide, thereby enabling our distributors to offer our
proprietary products competitively. In addition to our
cool-season grasses, we offer domestically produced warm
season Bermuda and Zoysia grasses to meet a wide variety
of situations. "Wildthings",
our regional wildflower assortments are also featured in
our product line, making TMI one of the world's most
complete "green industry" seed suppliers.
TMI's focus is on improved turfgrasses
for the professional markets of Golf, Landscaping, and
Landscape Architecture. TMI varieties are used
commercially as sod, hydro seeded onto golf courses,
parks, and lawns, repackaged for the retail market, added
to custom blends and regularly specified for use at
resorts, hotels, theme parks and other high profile
projects worldwide. TMI also exports Oregon grown grasses
to over 20 countries around the world.
On the Golf Course, there's a high
likelihood that TMI produced some the seed for the
fairways, greens, tees and even the roughs. Today many
grass seed companies have top rated varieties that
perform well in overall turf quality but when spring
transition time comes, they just keep going. Our
overseeding customers wanted varieties that offered a
smoother spring transition . . . This is why TMI
developed varieties with less heat tolerance, and
unusually high quality, especially for Southern
Overseeding. Thru TMI's expertise in Perfecting the
Art of Overseeding, our Distributors are the leaders
in highly specialized varieties to meet the needs of the
Golf and Turfgrass Professional.
